Dr. Kristen Kidson

Dr. Kidson is a Consultant Anesthesiologist at Vancouver General Hospital since 2020.  She completed her Critical care training at UBC in 2022.  She works at VGH as a Staff Intensivist as of August 1, 2024.

Dr. Kidson obtained her MD (2015), FRCPC Anesthesiology (2020) and FRCPC Critical Care (2022) all at UBC. She completed a fellowship in Cardiac Anesthesiology at Stanford University while completing additional training in liver transplant anesthesia. She is currently enrolled in the MSc in Epidemiology at the University of London. Her interest are liver transplant, the interface between complex cardiac disease and liver disease, and mechanical circulatory support. Her ultimate goal is to advance the care of liver transplant patients in BC.

Dr. Kidson has served on a number of residency training committees during her training.  She has several awards for service including the COVID-19 Medal, 2020 as the sole trainee to receive recognition from Vancouver General Hospital for patient advocacy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Kidson has 7 peer-reviewed publications; 5 as first author. She has 1 book chapter.  She has delivered 11 formal academic presentations in addition to 11 trainee presentations.  She has held 3 grants and is the recipient of 11 awards for scholarship.  Her special scholarly interests are: Quality Improvement; Liver failure, liver transplant, combined liver/heart/lung transplant; Mechanical circulatory support in cardiothoracic surgical patients, lung and heart transplant patients; and Maternal critical care with special focus on cardiovascular critical care

Dr. Kidson is already a committed educator.  She teaches all levels of learners in the ICUs at Vancouver General Hospital and several other hospitals. Her special areas of interest in teaching include: Liver failure and liver transplantation; Simulation in Residency Education; Quality Improvement and Patient Safety; and Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Cardiac Surgery Intensive care.  In 2023 she was awarded the Master Teacher Award, Critical Care Medicine, from the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology and Therapeutics, UBC.
